3 Steps to get British Columbia Motorcycle License
A) Motorcycle knowledge Test
To obtain a motorcycle learner's license, you must pass the motorcycle knowledge test which consists of 40 multiple-choice questions based on the Learn to Ride Smart guide. The test is available in several languages and takes about 30 minutes to complete. If you fail, you can retake the test after 7 days. After passing, you will receive a Class 6L or Class 8L license with some restrictions, such as riding with a supervisor, a 60km/hr speed limit, no passengers, restricted hours, and displaying an L sign if you have an 8L license. B) Motorcycle Skills Test
The motorcycle skills test is a 15-minute test that assesses basic riding skills, including signalling, clutch and throttle handling, braking, and turning. It can be taken after holding a 6L or 8L licence for at least 14 or 30 days, respectively. The test involves riding in a paved lot at slow speeds and demonstrating various riding skills. If you don't pass, you can take the test again after seven days. Once passed, the 60 km/h speed restriction is removed, and you can ride without a supervisor. Other learner's restrictions still apply such as no passenger and nigh time riding, and a road test must be completed within the time remaining on the learner's license.
C) Motorcycle Road Test
The Class 6 road test is the final test for obtaining a full Class 6 motorcycle driver's license. It can be taken after passing the motorcycle skills test and having a Class 6L or Class 8L learner's license for a certain amount of time. The test takes about an hour and covers different riding environments, including city streets, highways, and intersections with stop signs and traffic lights. During the test, riders will be asked to perform various maneuvers and demonstrate See-Think-Do skills. Hazard perception skills will also be tested, and riders should bring a motorcycle in good working order, valid insurance and registration documents, required ID, and license fees. The license may be restricted based on the type of motorcycle or scooter used during the test. Translators may be present for the feedback session, but the road test is conducted in English only.
